Stereotopix™ Basic Research
Basic research uses quantitative microscopy many different ways with the goal of producing high quality, quantitative results to support the development, submission, and award of grants and publications. Principal Investigators often need to obtain unbiased structural information (volume, area, length and numbers) from many types of tissue and from images created on a variety of different modalities. StereotopixTM will provide laboratories with a ultra-flexible stereology software to support the requirements of basic research.
Unbiased quantification of tissue changes
Stereology is the method of choice for unbiased quantification of anatomical changes of physiological importance, when a detailed analysis of tissue microstructure is essential to understand pathological or natural changes. Stereology is used to quantify structural information like volume, area, length and numbers from many types of tissue, and is recognized in a number of scientific communities as the only scientifically valid and unbiased method to perform these types of quantitative analyses.
Highly configurable stereology toolbox
Newcast™ plus is the backbone of stereotopix and provides a complete comprehensive set of well-documented stereology tools that allows researchers to accurately estimate all relevant end-points.
Automated physical fractionator
Visiopharm’s patented autodisector™ makes it possible to work fast and efficiently with the physical fractionator principle by automating multiple steps leading to perfectly aligned adjacent sections.
The proportionator™ sampling principle is a new general sampling principle in stereology that uses image analysis to perform a non-uniform sampling based on the extent of the feature of interest. This is in principle a biased method – but the sampling probability of each field is known, allowing for calculation of unbiased estimates. The proportionator™ sampling design is based on the sampling with probability proportional to size (pps).
Flexible hardware integration
Visiopharm provides systems fully configured with all hardware components, but we can also help you to retrofit to your existing system, and are fully compatible with leading hardware brands. The software is designed to facilitate every step in the workflow from prepared tissue sections to delivering scientifically valid, quantitative end-points that reflect important tissue properties.
Brightfield, fluorescence and more
Stereotopix can be used with images taken with transmitted light (monochrome and color), fluorescence, electron microscopes (em), magnetic resonance (mr) scanners and computed tomography (ct) scanners. Statistics and plotting
The advanced calculator tool makes it possible to calculate and plot sample statistics across any level of the hierarchical database.

Developed and tested by leading experts
Visiopharm’s newcast™ is the backbone of stereotopix and originates from the stereology epicenter of aarhus university, denmark, developed and tested with profs. H.J. Gundersen and j.R. Nyengaard. New methods and tools for stereotopix are routinely developed, implemented and tested in close collaboration with the stereology research laboratory.
