Abstract
Introduction to Computer Assisted Stereological Analysis with newCASTTM
By Won Yung Choi, Ph.D., Visiopharm
This scientific presentation will illustrate the typical workflow in newCASTTM for obtaining unbiased estimation of stereological endpoints such as:
- Volume (Point probe for Cavalieri estimation)
- Number
- Optical disector in thick sections
- Physical disector in pairs of thin sections (AutoDisectorTM)
- Surface area density (Line probe in IUR sections)
- Local volume of particles (number-weighted mean volume using Rotator, and Nucleator; volume-weighted mean volume using line probes)
- Length density
- Using the counting frame in IUR sections
Biological samples from different organs (brain, lungs, kidneys etc) will be used to illustrate how to efficiently sample and quantify using newCASTTM. The examples and underlying principles will be applicable for all fields of biological sciences.
