Digital image analysis is employed to guide the sampling of image fields towards regions containing the feature of interest. Bias is avoided by keeping track of the exact empirical sampling probability of each sampled field. With the ProportionatorTM, stereological sampling efficiency has been demonstrated to be improved up to 25 times compared to systematic uniform random sampling in practical applications (Gardi et al, (2008), J. Microsc. 222: 242 - 250). The ProportionatorTM is similar to the smooth fractionator sampling principle (Gundersen, (2002), J. Microsc. 207: 191 - 210) in that it greatly increases sampling efficiency and end-point precision. The ProportionatorTM is the most efficient stereological sampling principle to date and can be used with any probes to help streamline your quantification objective. ProportionatorTM requires newCASTTM, VisiomorphTM and MicroimagerTM. Request an on-line software demonstration of ProportionatorTM |
