Michael Grunkin, Ph.D
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Michael Grunkin is founder and managing director of Visiopharm. He received his Ph.D in image analysis from the Technical University of Denmark in 1993. His post-doctoral work was carried out on Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School, where he combined a strong theoretical and practical background in image analysis with applications from the life-sciences. From 1996, he was the technical founder of two Danish companies developing advanced image analysis technology for diagnosing osteoporosis and various diseases manifesting themselves on the human retina. In 2001, he co-founded Visiopharm, which is focused on the development of general as well as application-specific image analysis solutions for the life-sciences.

Johan Doré Hansen, M. Sc.
Chief Technical Officer
Johan Doré Hansen is co-founder and CTO in Visiopharm. He received his Masters Degree in image analysis from the Technical University of Denmark in 1995. Until 1999, he developed high-speed industrial inspection systems though his own company, Imaging. One of his major achievements is a hardwood parquet sorting system, which is currently running on several production lines. In 1999, he entered the field of life-science image analysis, and was the driving force behind the development of algorithms for diagnosing diseases manifesting themselves on the human retina. In 2001, he co-founded Visiopharm.

Niels Tćkker Foged, M. Sc., DVS, B.Comm
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Niels Tćkker Foged joined Visiopharm in 2006 leaving a position as R&D Director of the world leading cancer diagnostics company Dako A/S. Dr. Foged is a master of science in chemistry, and holds a bachelor degree in financing. He achieved his title of doctor of veterinary science by developing a recombinant vaccine and diagnostic method for an infectious disease in pigs. Before joining Dako in 2002, Dr. Foged was co-founder and CEO of the biotech company Osteopro A/S, which in a merger became a part of Nordic Bioscience A/S, a company developing pharmaceuticals and diagnostics for diseases of bone and cartilage.

Lene Gerlach, Ph.D
Vice President Business Development
Prior to joining Visiopharm in June 2009, Dr. Lene Gerlach was Vice President in Action Pharma A/S, Denmark, where she was responsible for IPR and legal affairs and involved in business development matters. From 2002-2007 she worked as a patent consultant in the IP law firms Plougmann & Vingtoft and Albihns, and as consultant in business development in Wiborg Biotech Consulting. Dr. Gerlach holds a MSc. Human Biology and Ph.D in neuroscience from University of Copenhagen. From 2000-2001 she held a position as assistant professor in the Department of Medical Physiology at University of Copenhagen. During her scientific career, Dr. Gerlach worked at Sct. Hans Hospital, Novo Nordisk and NeuroSearch in Denmark and at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY.
